How to Add a Google ‘Buzz This’ Button to your Blog

Most of you probably now know about Google Buzz unless you’ve been hiding under a rock the past few days. ‘Buzz’ is Google’s latest attempt to break into the Social Media realm and after a good ol’ play it’s actually pretty good. “Google Buzz is a new way to start conversations about the things you find interesting.” On my blog you’ll now see a ‘buzz this’ icon in between ‘Tweetmeme’ and ‘Facebook Share’. The Buzz This button is currently not available in the Wordpress Plugin Directory so here’s how to get it before anyone else!

1. Firstly, download it.

Note: You’ll require a self-hosted blog to do this.

2. Place it in your plugins folder via FTP.

Unzip the ZIP file first and drag the ‘google buzz button’ folder into your plugins folder.

3. Activate the plugin.

Log in to your Wordpress admin panel and activate the plugin.

You’ll find under settings (in the Wordpress admin) you can add it to the start and end of posts and pages or enter it manually via code. You can change the size of the icon but that’s about it. As this is a relatively new plugin there are not that many features but I’m sure as Google Buzz rapidly evolves, there will be an abundance of Wordpress plugins to come. Get buzzin’!

This plugin was made by the guys over at Internet Techies.

  1. Any chance to get one with another icon or without it completely? Not a big fan of that logo…

  2. Great Max, that you have shared this Internet Techies Plugin on you blog. Just I wonder, you should have mentioned us, with a tiny credit :), it would show some openness in this open source world.

I am working extensively to add more features to this plugin along with different icons. So be tuned up.

  3. Hi gxg, there will be more updates in the future – I’m sure within the plugin folder on your FTP you’ll find the jpg that you could probably overwrite and replace with your own image. Hope that helps!

  4. Hi Tejaswini,

Absolutely! – I am more than happy to credit – It’s a great plugin and I look forward to all your updates – Check out the Tweetmeme settings and create something similar to these guys – One of the things I like with Tweetmeme is the ability to choose whether or not it appears on Posts AND/OR Pages. Also the added CSS control helps the Wordpress newbies a lot more. What would also be nice is a Widget/Code that enabled you to show your ‘Buzz’ feed with a drop down/scroll bar to show the current conversation… Maybe even a follow button (subscribe to buzz feed button) with this. Continue to develop great things!

  5. I have the internet techies plugin installed on my blog! I’m anxiously waiting for the counter addon in an update. :)

  6. Hi Naomi, we all are – Keep in touch if you find it before me – Blogger love!

  7. Thanks for sharing this, which I’ve since incorporated.

  8. Hey Ari – Excellent, there will be some great updates soon, I’ll check out your blog.

  9. Hey Max,

Thanks for sharing and making it so easily accessible. I downloaded the plugin as I still haven’t integrated it into my blog yet. Still contemplating whether to use it or not (although I’m sure I’ll cave lol). Keep up those great tips :)!

    Cheers

  10. Thanks ‘Griddy’! You need to sort out your Gravatar picture! Glad the post helped, more posts on social plugins soon! – You may want to check out ‘How to add a Facebook ‘Like’ button to your Website’ – However for your blog, check out ‘Facebook Like’ plugins, they should sort you out.

  11. Thanks a lot for the advice Max. I’ll go ahead and check those out. If I have any questions in the process, I’ll make sure to come back and ask you :)!
    Ciao

  12. By the way I went ahead and installed the Google Buzz button – but for some reason I can’t seem to place it where I want next to my other 2 (tweet & FB) – so I removed it for now. I keep getting some visible html text next to it. I went into the options for it, but the setting choices are rather limited – or else I’m just really not the expert Techie lol.

  13. I agree – It’s not the easiest solution as it stands Ingrid, when I find a better one I’ll make sure I post it. I am currently working on a new Facebook Social Plugin for Wordpress that should blow all the others out of the water – stay tuned!
